How to Find Essential Items on Moving Day
Once you've packed your possessions into boxes, then you may have to wait a while before you can find and unload things in your new home. This can be a pain on your moving day if you discover you want or need something and have no real idea where it was packed or where its box is situated in your removal mountain. To make things easier, it's worth putting a few boxes to one side when you pack and filling them with essential items that you might need on the day. These boxes can be loaded on to your van last and unloaded first. What should you pack for easy or emergency access?
Drinks
Moving can be a tiring job, even if your removalists are doing most of the work. When you get into your new home, and your removalists have started unpacking your van, you may all appreciate a cuppa or a cold drink to keep you going. So, it's worth packing some kitchen essentials into a box that you can get your hands on immediately, such as a kettle, mugs, tea, coffee and sugar. If you have an esky, you can use this to hold milk, some bottles of water and even a few beers to celebrate your move once the removalists are done.
Cleaning Materials
Your new home may not be as pristinely clean as you'd like, and it might be useful to clean some areas while your removalists are unpacking your van. So, pack up a box with cleaning materials like cleaners, kitchen towels and cloths. You may get a bit grubby during the move yourself, so adding some soap and a hand towel or two may also be useful.
Medications and First Aid
If you take regular medications, then it's worth putting a supply in an essential items box, so you don't need to dig through stuff to get your meds when you need them. A few painkillers to combat moving day headaches may also be good to have close at hand. Plus, bear in mind that it's not uncommon to have minor injuries like cuts and scrapes when you're moving, so some antiseptic and a pack of plasters may also come in useful.
Phone Chargers
During a long moving day, you may use your phone or tablet a lot. It's no fun trying to find chargers and cables when you need them, so put any chargers you might need in your essential items box for easy access.
