Outside of a bereavement in the family, moving home is said to be one of the most stressful things you can go through in life. However, there is no reason for it to always be this way. You can take much of the hassle out of relocating by being as prepared as possible prior to your moving day. Among the most important things to take into consideration in advance is which furniture removals company you will hire to help you. Once selected, you can then get on with the job of packaging up your belongings before they turn up to transport them for you. What do you need to consider when preparing your belongings for your move?

Furniture Removals

Professional removals companies prove to be invaluable when it comes to lifting heavy items, such as when they are conducting furniture removal, for example. You can make furniture removals go more smoothly by preparing your furniture in advance. For example, dismantling your bedstead and dining table and chairs means that these items can be loaded into a removals van more easily and take up less room. In addition, you can take the cushions and upholstery off of things like sofas in order to ready them for the onward journey. Any items that cannot be dismantled or have their outer coverings removed should be covered with an old sheet or blanket to provide them with adequate protection from the handling they will undergo.

Personal Possessions

When it comes to smaller items — such as photo frames, audio equipment and jewellery, for example — you should stow these away in moving crates prior to the big day. If your belongings are placed in sturdy crates, then they will be protected when in transit. Cover anything delicate, like crockery and glassware, in bubble wrap. For more durable belongings, old newspaper is usually enough. If you rely on cardboard boxes rather than crates, then you may well find that the contents are damaged on arrival. Good removals firms will often rent storage crates to you for the period of your move and only come to collect them when you have fully unpacked.

Outdoor Items

Things that live outside often don't need to be packaged up as such because they can be loaded directly into the removal firm's truck. However, you don't want them to be dirty, or your other items could get soiled. Spray these belongings down with a hose the day or two before the move. Place pots which contain plants and soil in plastic bags so that if they topple over, they won't make a mess.

About Me
Moving Home: Things I Have Learnt

In the past 10 years, I have moved home 7 times. As you can imagine, this has given me lots of experience. However, during the first couple of moves, not everything went to plan. For example, when I first moved house, I didn't pack my things correctly so a lot of stuff was broken in transit. During another early move, I injured myself picking up a very heavy box. Since then, I have used the services of a professional house moving company. The guys who help with the move are fantastic and they have taught me lots of neat tricks which make relocating very easy.
