If you've decided to use a backloading service to move some of your belongings when you move interstate, then it's a good idea to book the space you need as early as you can. Why?

1. Get Guaranteed Space

Backloading typically works out to be cheaper than hiring a dedicated removalist. When you backload, you piggyback on one-way removals space in a vehicle that is already making a trip. Each backloading vehicle generally carries more than one customer's stuff. The principle here is that the carrier fills all available space with as many different orders as it can get and fit in.

The problem you have here is that you can't always pick and choose when you have your stuff delivered. For example, a backloading company may only make a trip to your new location once a week. You can't, however, assume that the company will have space on the day you need to have your stuff moved at short notice. Backloads can be popular. The only way you might be able to guarantee a delivery that suits your timings may be to book well in advance.

2. Get Enough Space

You may be able to book a backloading spot on short notice, but only if the things you need removed fit into the available space. If you have a lot of furniture or belongings to transfer to your new state, then you may need a fair amount of room on the vehicle.

If you book late, then you may find that you can't fit all your stuff in the space that is left over. This would probably delay your removal until you can book again in an emptier truck. But, if you book early, you're more likely to get the space you need on the date you want.

3. Keep Your Costs Low

When you backload, you don't pay for the trip itself. You pay for the space you take up in the removal vehicle. So, smaller loads generally cost less than bigger ones.

If you book a backload late in the removals process, then you may not have time to go through your stuff to weed out things you don't need. You may end up needing more space to get all your belongings moved. However, if you book early, then you have time to make sure that you only move essential items and belongings. This could reduce the space you need on the vehicle, which could reduce your moving costs.

To find out more about the best time to book, contact local backloading companies and ask for their advice.

About Me
Moving Home: Things I Have Learnt

In the past 10 years, I have moved home 7 times. As you can imagine, this has given me lots of experience. However, during the first couple of moves, not everything went to plan. For example, when I first moved house, I didn't pack my things correctly so a lot of stuff was broken in transit. During another early move, I injured myself picking up a very heavy box. Since then, I have used the services of a professional house moving company. The guys who help with the move are fantastic and they have taught me lots of neat tricks which make relocating very easy.
