The key to making your move less stressful is organisation. The earlier you begin packing up your home, the less stress you will feel because it can be done methodically. Room-by-room packing is a method recommended by many removalists because it gives you a chance to sort through each room as you go. Bathrooms are an interesting room to pack up because they are used right up until moving day. Therefore, use this removalist's guide to packing bathrooms to make this task quick and painless.

Packing Supplies

When packing up the bathroom, it pays to think outside the box when it comes to the vessels that transport these goods. Cardboard boxes work well for other rooms of the house, but your bathroom contains items prone to leak the minute they fall over (think of the shampoo bottle). A great way to transport bathroom supplies is to use plastic storage tubs. Removalists prefer these for two reasons:

  1. There is no chance of the bottom becoming wet and saturated to the point it gives way while the removalist is carrying it to the truck.
  2. They are easy to carry and stack on the removalist's truck.

The plastic storage tubs can be purchased at supermarkets and department stores. Choose those which are see-through so you can easily identify the contents of the tub quickly if you are looking for a specific item.

Time For A Clean Out

Moving is a great time to have a cleanout of each room as you move through packing in. While in your bathroom, check the lids of each item before you place it into the storage tub. In particular, look for loose or broken lids which are going to cause the contents to leak while in transit. If the item is an expensive product you do not want to throw away, wrap clear plastic film around the broken lid area and then place it into a sealable plastic bag so that the contents are confined.

No Flammable Liquids

Bathroom cabinets often contain flammable liquids like rubbing alcohol and methylated spirits and those sorts of products are not allowed on the removalist's truck because of their flammable qualities. Therefore, any item in your bathroom cabinet of this nature should be disposed of or transported separately in your vehicle.

When you use this removalist's guide to packing bathrooms, you achieve a stress-free packing of this room before your intended moving date.

About Me
Moving Home: Things I Have Learnt

In the past 10 years, I have moved home 7 times. As you can imagine, this has given me lots of experience. However, during the first couple of moves, not everything went to plan. For example, when I first moved house, I didn't pack my things correctly so a lot of stuff was broken in transit. During another early move, I injured myself picking up a very heavy box. Since then, I have used the services of a professional house moving company. The guys who help with the move are fantastic and they have taught me lots of neat tricks which make relocating very easy.
